Bruno Cassinari was a post-war Italian painter and sculptor influenced by both Cubism and Expressionism. Born on October 29, 1912, in Piacenza, Italy, Cassinari studied fine art under Aldo Carpi and was affiliated with the influential Italian art magazine Current, along with artists Renato Birolli and Ennio Morlotti. In 1949, Cassinari was selected by Pablo Picasso to exhibit work at the Antibes Museum of Art. He went on to win the Grand Prize for Painting at the 1952 Venice Biennale, notably for the dramatic, Cubist-inspired paintings The Lemon and Still Life in Pink. He was recognized for his contributions to Italian painting by the City of Milan, which in 1986 organized a large-scale city-wide retrospective of his work. Cassinari died in Milan on March 26, 1992, nearly exactly one year after the passing of his wife, Enrica.
